Q & A with Sirene Collection's owner, Nell Love

Q) Nell, you’re one of the most gorgeous beach girls on the Web! What are your top five beaches in the world and why?

A) Thanks! I have had the fortune to visit some really great beaches and I am always planning my next tropical trip.

1. Best waves and natural marine life was the time I spent on Grafton Beach in Tobago, you could body surf like I have never experienced and then you could just throw on some snorkel gear and watch the tropical fish all in the same cove!

2. The most beautiful sand on earth was a small beach in Tayrona Park in Colombia, the sand had mica chips in it that made it sparkle like gold!

3. The most gorgeous blue water I have been in was in St. Maarten so blue and peaceful, you could stay in all day.

4. Where I feel the most at home is at the beach in Montauk, I try to go out to Montauk a couple times season for long weekend.

5. The most quiet and relaxing would be the secluded Playa Grande in Costa Rica, it’s where many of the nations sea turtles nest and you have to take a boat to get to the island from the bustling Tamarindo.

Q) When was SirèneCollection.com founded and what’s the inspiration behind it?

A) I founded Sirène just this year so this is my first season! Being an avid beach lover I had many frustrating seasons trying to finding interesting swimwear online. So I decided to create a well-curated multi-brand swim and resortwear web site that adhered to a high standard of style and design.

Q) You carry a great selection of designers! Who are your favorites and why?

A) To be honest I love and stand behind all my designers, but I do love to support the smaller brands out there and get them into the marketplace. I love the Lilibon lace bikinis because they are so different and lingerie inspired. I also have a soft spot for the luxurious Chio di Stefania D suits, they are really hard to find and have such amazing fabric- all made in Italy.

Q) What designers & styles are most popular for those in their teens and 20’s right now?

A) I would say women in their teens and 20s are looking for a bright fun suit that is different and interesting. They are more willing to experiment with cut-outs like the Zimmerman Mali Peep Bikini. This demographic is also more apt to go for the really tiny string bikini’s like the Chio St. Barts Bikini or the Mara Hoffman Side Tie Bikini.

Q) Which designers & styles are fab for those in their 30’s and 40's?

A) I would say that the more established women knows their body really well at this point, they will have a favorite cut or style depending on their body type. For someone looking for something more conservative I love the Kathleen Cook suits, they all offer really good support and have great quality. I also see women at this age going for a one piece with interest or structure like a low v-front like the Mara Hoffman Twist Front One Piece or the Zimmerman Mali Underwire One Piece.

Q) What are the hottest trends in the shape of swimwear this year?

A) This season there are a couple key trends, the romantic lingerie inspired like the Lilibon swimwear. You are seeing a lot 80’s inspired but updated for this century like the Tigerlily Lienzo Strapless if that style was made in the 80’s the sides of the suit would be up to your belly button! Another really big trend is the convertible suit like the Salt Swimwear Diana top and Edie Bottom- you can wear the top and bottom multiple ways- it’s like having 5 suits in one.

Q) This interviewer once had a bandeau bikini top fall off in the middle of a crashing ocean wave amongst a very large crowd. Have you ever experienced a bathing suit mishap and might you have any tips on how to avoid such embarrassing moments?

A) I have never lost a suit in the ocean before but have certainly flashed groups of beach goers more than once! When I was at Grafton Beach in Tobago, the waves were so strong that I could not wear my bandeaus unless they had a neck strap- most of my bandeaus come with a strap at the neck for when I go out into the water. I would definitely suggest packing a few different types of suits on vacation so that you can tailor your choice depending on your activity. When I am really out in the waves I either wear a one piece or I put on The Lisa Marie Bikini - that suit isn’t going anywhere.

Q) Thanks so much for answering our questions! Any flashes for Resort 2011 you can share with our readers we’ll be able to find at SirèneCollection.com?

A) I am seeing a lot of really amazing separates; mix and match suits with a print top and solid bottom or vice versa. I love the idea of having a group of bikini tops and bottoms that you can mix and match! I’m also seeing a lot of 90’s inspired florals, many designers now, like me, grew up in the 90’s and have a soft spot in their hearts for this Nirvana/ Sassy Magazine/ Doc Martins type of style. You will see some of that on my site for Resort from designers like Zimmerman and Tori Praver.
